7-day transition
Take it slow, over 7 days.
Switching too fast is the most common cause of an upset tummy. Mixing the new food in gradually gives your pet's gut time to adjust.
The schedule
Mix, then mix a little more.
As printed on every Keos pack: mix Keos with your pet's current food, then gradually increase the share of Keos over 7 days. Keep the total daily portion the same.
What to expect
Normal, or worth a call?
Usually normal
- Slightly softer stools for a day or two
- A change in stool smell as the gut adjusts
- Some hesitation sniffing the new food
- A little extra wind in the first few days
Pause and speak to your vet
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea for more than two days
- Refusing to eat
- Blood in the stool, or unusual tiredness
Fussy eaters
If they turn their nose up.
Some pets need longer. Slow the switch down rather than giving up on it.
- Stretch it to 14 daysUse the same 25 / 50 / 75 / 100% stages, but hold each one for three or four days instead of two.
- Feed at set timesOffer meals at regular times and lift the bowl after 20–30 minutes. Pets that graze all day have less appetite for something new.
- Don't switch back at the first sniffA skipped meal is common during a change. If your pet still refuses food, pause and speak to your vet.
- Coming from home-cooked food? That's a bigger change than kibble to kibble, so use the 14-day pace from the start.
Puppies and kittens
At weaning, soften it first.
For puppies and kittens at the time of weaning, moisten the kibble: 1 portion of water to 5 or 6 portions of kibble, as printed on the Keos Puppy and Keos+ Kitten packs.
Always keep fresh water in a clean bowl and change it often.
