Dogs and cats
A cat is not a small dog.
It's a common mistake — treating cat nutrition as a scaled-down version of dog nutrition. Cats are obligate carnivores with distinct metabolic needs: they require more protein relative to body weight, cannot synthesise enough of their own taurine, and process fat and certain vitamins differently to dogs. That's why Keos formulates cat and dog ranges separately, from the ground up, rather than adjusting a single base recipe by species.
Cats need 11 essential amino acids; dogs need 10. The difference is taurine — essential for heart and eye health. Every Keos cat formula includes taurine as standard.
How a formula is built

Every Keos formula is built around six nutritional categories, balanced against life stage and species.
Proteins
Muscle maintenance and tissue repair — the largest single input by cost and by importance.
Fats
Concentrated energy, essential fatty acids, and coat and skin condition.
Carbohydrates
Digestible energy sources, chosen for digestibility.
Vitamins
Metabolic cofactors — A, D, E and the B-complex, dosed to life stage.
Minerals
The calcium-phosphorus ratio, plus chelated trace minerals for bone and enzyme function.
Water
Moisture content kept low for shelf life, with fresh water always alongside the bowl.

What FEDIAF actually means
Not a logo — a nutrient specification. FEDIAF, the European Pet Food Industry Federation, publishes minimum and maximum nutrient guidelines by species and life stage. Every Keos formula is made to meet them.

In a 2022 two-bowl preference trial, Keos Cat All Stages Seafood was chosen 66% of the time against 18% for the reference food. In 2023, Keos+ Cat Adult performed at or above Royal Canin on palatability.

Long-term shelf stability is checked through aging trials and accelerated stress testing (40°C / 75% RH) run by an external French laboratory — proof the food holds up long after it leaves the line.
